Meet the Team
Dr. Simon Holguin B.Ch.D. GDC – 67217
Practice Partner
I graduated from Leeds University in 1991 and chose to start work in general practice in North Yorkshire. I also gained further experience working as a clinical assistant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After a spell on the Isle of Bute, Scotland, I returned to my native Teesdale, when in 2003 I became a partner in Victoria Dental practice with Helen. Over the years I have been a vocational trainer, dental representative to Darlington Primary Care Trust and a member of Durham Local Dental Committee.
Outside dentistry I met Helen in my university days in Leeds and have three adult children. Helen and I have much affection for the people of Peru, having helped with charity work there many times over many years, and still retain many contacts and friends. I am passionate about cycling, both road and mountain biking and we both enjoy keeping fit and being outdoors in general. I also have a great interest in history and justify my interest in auctions by feeling it is my way of reusing and recycling.
For many years Helen and I have been members of Denplan Excel. This is a quality assurance accreditation program designed to help dentists understand what is best practice, assess their standards and guide them to keep up to date with the latest developments in practice. We have felt the benefit of this regular in-practice assessment hugely.
Dr. Helen Holguin B.ChD. GDC – 65873
Practice Partner
I graduated from Leeds University in 1990 but continued to work in Leeds Dental Institute as a House Officer in Periodontology, Children, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics and Emergency departments. After 3 years of general practice in North Yorkshire we moved to Bute. Simon worked on the island and I commuted to the mainland on the ferry. This was a fun experience, but I always wondered if I would get home if the weather was bad. Once we became parents we decided to move back to the beautiful North-East of Simon’s roots (and near Grandparents).
I feel strongly that prevention and education is at the heart of good dentistry and a healthy life and to that end, when not in the practice, I have been actively involved in all my children’s schools being at times a school governor and P.T.A. member. Now my children are all adults I still make regular visits to local schools to help with dental education.
When I have time to myself, as well as cycling and keeping fit, I enjoy literature, ballet and cooking, and pottery.
For many years Simon and I have been members of Denplan Excel. This is a quality assurance accreditation program designed to help dentists understand what is best practice, assess their standards and guide them to keep up to date with the latest developments in practice. We have felt the benefit of this regular in-practice assessment hugely, to the extent that I have been now working for the past 5 years as an advisor for Denplan with this. It is a privilege to be invited into practices to assess their workings and learn from everyone’s individual styles.
James Beal – GDC 79381
I qualified from Newcastle university with a BDS degree in 2001. In the August of that year I started work at Victoria Dental Practice. Victoria Dental Practice is now like my second home. Over the years I have treated many patients from when they were children, seen them grow up, and am now starting to to see their young families as well. Working at the same practice now into my third decade, has allowed me to really get to know my patients and understand their individual dental needs. I pride myself in listening to my patients, explaining their options and then providing quality dentistry on the choices we have made together.
As well as working at Victoria Dental Practice I spent 5 years working a day week, as a Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University. I helped mainly final year students on their cases, passing on my skills and knowledge.
Away from work, I spend my time with my wife and two children, whilst making the occasional trip to local reservoirs for a spot of fishing.
Angelina Stockton – GDC 6380
I have been qualified as a Dental Hygienist from Newcastle Dental Hospital since December 2003. Since then I have been working in general practice in the North East of England, and I joined Victoria Dental Practice in September 2008.
Since joining the practice I got married in 2013 and now have 2 lovely girls. They keep me busy, but in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my extended family and friends and attending the local gym if I get the chance.
Jayne Coe – GDC 133672
I have worked for Victoria Dental practice since leaving school and feel I have seen families develop and grow around me. I still use my extensive dental and practice knowledge to help me guide staff and patients alike and continue to work as a qualified dental nurse within the practice. I continue to develop my knowledge with qualifications in Radiography, Oral Hygiene and Customer Care. I am registered with the G.D.C. Outside work my family is important to me; having a grandson has really changed our lives as a family and I still have two very spoiled cats. I enjoy reading and travelling with my husband Frazer, as after 25 years we finally got married in Niagara Falls in 2019
